Safari Journey

Our exciting and adventurous Safari Journey is one of our signature activities here at the park that takes the visitor through the habitats of Indonesia, India and Africa.

Coming face to face with many animals, the visitor has the opportunity to see our wildlife living naturally all together in these open range regions and you get to take as many photos as you like, all from the comfort and safety of your air conditioned safari tram, with your very own personal guide!

Get 'up close' and personal with the animals as they approach your window side. Take pleasure when you plunge into 'Lake Manyara' where the Hippopotamus hang out all day to keep cool, get close enough to count the zebra's stripes, enter the Lion's den if you dare! Do your best to spot the tigers hiding in the dense jungle and be captivated by the enormous size of our male White Rhinoceros named Nelson.

The Elephant ride offers a breathtaking experience as the largest land mammal in the world takes you on an extraordinary and exhilarating journey around an African Themed Panorama. The elephant ride is provided with a comfortable saddle and guests will be seated behind an experienced elephant handler as the elephant back safari will last around 30 minutes.

The Elephant Back Safari Journey not only offers and exciting experience, but it also allows guests to enjoy the tranquility as the elephant ride includes a one of a kind elephant bath in the Mara River, adding a plus point in your safari experience. Through the elephant ride, guests will have the chance to immerse in the pristine environment with the herd and have the opportunity to intimately engage and interact with elephants as well as other free-ranging African animals in the area such as the infamous zebras, wildebeest and rhinoceros. The enjoyment of the elephant ride lies in being at one with nature and the surrounding wildlife.

The best part of the Elephant Back Safari is the exclusive and educational insight from our highly qualified and interpretive elephant handlers. Our elephant herd is cared for by a special group of men, who treat the elephants like one of their own. Like humans, each elephants develop their own unique personalities throughout their long lives. Seated comfortably on the back of these gentle giants, the elephant ride offers guests a chance to learn about nature’s true "king of the beasts" through understanding their natural behavior, intelligence, habitat and conservation. These largest of land mammals are keystone species on whose conservation the existence of many other aspects of biodiversity depends.

Taman Safari Indonesia (TSI) is an institution that deals extensively with ex-situ conservation of Sumatran Elephants. However, it has also established important and pioneering links between in-situ and ex-situ elephant conservation efforts. Since 1985, Taman Safari Indonesia has been involved in helping to solve the human - elephant conflict in Sumatra. One achievement was the establishment of Elephants Training Centre (ETCs). TSI started the first ETC in Way Kambas National Park in Lampung Province than established other ETCs in Riau and Aceh. There are now six Elephant Training Centre in Sumatra.

Bali Safari & Marine Park also established for Elephant captivity. We call it "Kampung Gajah" or Elephant Village, where we house 20 Sumatran Elephants right now. Here, you can enjoy yourself with the Elephant trail, cuddles with the baby Elephants, take some pictures, elephant feeding and also you can see the elephants education show. These elephants education show tells about the characteristics, their habits in the wild, and the differences between Sumatran elephant and African elephant. Elephant is the biggest wild animal since its body weight can be 5,000 kg, while the female weight is lighter. The spreading out of Asian elephants is in India, Peninsula, Sumatra, and Sri Lanka.

Comparing to the African elephants, Asian elephants have smaller body. These wild animals live in groups, consisting about 10-30 elephants in a group. Their foods are all kinds of grasses and fruits. Only male elephants have ivory tusks. The tusks start to grow at the age of 2 or 3 years old. Tusk of female is not appearing. The pregnancy period of an elephant is 22 months & they give birth 1 or 2 baby elephants.
